What is coastal decor?
You may be wondering what coastal decor is. It is often referred to as coastal or beach style and is an interior design theme inspired by the relaxed and airy atmosphere of coastal living. All in all, it draws inspiration from beach houses, seaside cottages, and the natural elements of the coast. Key features of coastal decor include:
- Color Palette: Typically incorporates a light and airy color palette. Such as whites, soft blues, sandy beige, and greens are common choices, mirroring the colors of the sea, sky, and beach.
- Natural Materials: The use of natural materials is prominent in coastal decor such as light-colored woods, rattan, jute, and other organic materials that evoke a beachy, casual feel.
- Textures: Textures are reminiscent of the beach, such as weathered wood, distressed finishes, and woven materials. These textures add depth and visual interest to the space.
- Light and Airy Fabrics: Fabrics in coastal decor tend to be light and breezy. Linens, cotton, and sheer curtains are popular choices, allowing natural light to filter through and creating an open, airy feel.
- Casual and Comfortable Furniture: Furniture in coastal decor is often comfortable and inviting, with a focus on casual elegance. Slip-covered sofas, overstuffed chairs, and natural-fiber rugs contribute to the relaxed vibe.
- Open and Airy Spaces: Coastal design often emphasizes open, uncluttered spaces that allow for easy movement and a sense of freedom. This design approach reflects the openness of coastal environments.
Whether you live by the coast or simply want to bring a bit of the beach into your home, coastal decor offers a timeless and soothing style that captures the essence of seaside living.
