I go thrift shopping a lot. I love the thrill of the hunt and finding great deals. I hate spending money, but I that at the thrift store I don’t have to spend much. A pair of jeans at American Eagle brand new are around $60, but at the Thrift Store they are less than $10. I can find great quality and expensive brands for so cheap. Sometimes Thrift Store shopping can be a little overwhelming, so I put together some tips for you to shop like a pro.
1. Only buy things that you need. Sometimes you get really excited at the thrift store because everything is so cheap that you just want to buy everything. Just because it’s 99 cents doesn’t mean you need it. I get it that it’s cheap but you need to think whether or not you actually need it. Otherwise, it will just sit in your closet and probably end up back at the thrift store.
2. Go on half price days. Shopping on half-off days saves you even more money. At my Salvation Army, Wednesdays are family days, which means 4 out of 5 of the color tags are 50% off. Wednesdays are my favorite days to Thrift Shop because I can get the greatest deals.
3. Take your time while shopping. It is important to take your time while shopping because you don’t want to miss something good. All the clothes are mixed together and often cluttered around, so take your time and keep your eyes open.
4. Don’t get discourage shopping at the Thrift Store. Sometimes you will find nothing great. The thrift store is constantly getting new inventory as people keep donating clothing. Every time you stop in the Thrift Store there will be new treasures for you to find, so keeping looking.
5. Inspect the items before you buy them. You want to make sure there are no stains or rips before buying. It is not worth buying something that is already stained or ripped.
6. Go with some friends. Thrift shopping with others make it more fun and can also keep you in check by making sure you only buy things you need. Ask your friends for opinions on certain items because sometimes you just can’t tell if it’s cute.
7. Look for name brands. I love finding name brands at the thrift store like Free People, Kate Spade, Vineyard Vines, and J. Crew. Look for the brands that you can’t afford at the real store.
8. Buy quality items. Look for quality pieces tht will last you. Don’t buy cheap Forever21 clothes at the Thrift Store because it was already cheap to begin with.
9. Set a budget before going in. It is important to set a budget before going in because even though everything is so cheap you can easily over spend on things you don’t need. Stay focused and on budget.
10. Clean the clothes you buy when you get home. This is a no brainer, but I wanted to include it. Always wash the clothes you buy at the Thrift Store.
