If you’re looking for bathroom remodel ideas on a budget, you’re in the right place. In this post, I’m breaking down everything I’ve done so far to upgrade my bathroom without breaking the bank.

I am currently in the process of remodeling my bathroom, and if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that everything costs a lot of money. We are trying to keep costs down as much as possible. We’re keeping the floors as-is, which has been tough to work around. They aren’t awful, but they’re slightly dated, to say the least.

This post is about bathroom remodel ideas on a budget.
1. Fresh Paint
When they say paint can make a world of difference, it’s true. Paint can completely transform a space. In my bathroom, I wanted to keep things simple and neutral, so I went with white.
The biggest mistake we made was not using a primer before painting. If you don’t already know, you definitely need one, especially if you’re painting over a dark color. Now you know!

2. Replacing Fixtures & Hardware
Replacing fixtures in your bathroom can also make a huge difference, especially if you have outdated ones. For fixtures, we found a line at Home Depot that we really liked from Kohler. These fixtures aren’t too expensive but look very luxurious. Here’s what we got:
- Torrington 8 in. Widespread Double Handle Bathroom Faucet in Vibrant Brushed Nickel
- Torrington Single Handle 3-Spray Tub and Shower Faucet 1.75 GPM in. Vibrant Brushed Nickel (Valve Included)
- Torrington 3-Piece Bath Hardware Set with Hand Towel Holder, Towel Bar, Toilet Paper Holder
- Torrington Wall Mounted Knob Robe/Towel Hook in Vibrant Brushed Nickel
3. Replace Vanity
Let me preface this by saying that getting a new vanity can get very expensive. With that being said, if you have a solid vanity that you can refinish and paint, do that.
We currently have a pedestal vanity, which doesn’t function well for us, especially since this is the only bathroom in the house. We need counter space. I’ve been trying to find something on Facebook Marketplace, but we may end up purchasing new. I want to stay under $600-ish, but I also don’t want it to be poor quality.
Here are a few options from Amazon:
- Virubi 36” Bathroom Vanity with Single Sink
- DELUXE LIVING 36 Inch Bathroom Vanity with Sink
- OWIPAW 36″ Bathroom Vanity with Sink
- Merax 36″ Bathroom Vanity with Sink
4. Wallpaper

Adding an accent wall with wallpaper can add so much character. The cost of wallpaper really depends on the brand and style. We went wallpaper shopping at our local hardware stores, where they have books of samples to look through.
When ordering, you have to purchase two rolls at a time, even though we’re only planning to do one wall. Each roll was around $60, so that adds up quickly. I’ve always loved Serena & Lily wallpaper, but not the price. I ended up finding a wallpaper I loved that happened to be on sale for $78 per roll, so I went ahead and ordered it.
I haven’t installed it yet, so the verdict is still out on how it looks, the quality, and how difficult it is to install.
5. Refinish Bathtub

If you have an outdated bathtub that you want to make look a thousand times better, you should definitely consider refinishing it. I used the Rust-Oleum Tub & Tile Kit (linked from Walmart, which had the best price), and it did wonders for my bathtub. I started with an ugly light brown color that just did not fit the vibe I was going for.
